In Kranjska Gora there is more than one meter of fresh snow, but for the 50th Golden Fox more important is the one that lies beneath it and is about 40 centimetres thick. This base is so solid, that Filip Gartner, the FIS inspector, ensured before the team captains’ meeting: ‘’The snow base is so well prepared and solid that there are no chances it can be broken during the race.’’ That is also the reason why Atle Skaardal told the national team coaches, who were arriving late to Kranjska Gora due to heavy snowing: ‘’We can be optimistic, if the workers manage to remove all the fresh snow from the track during the night.’’
Workers from Maribor with assistance from their friends from Vitranc Cup are already used to situations like this. The Golden Fox celebrates its 50th anniversary and in its long history they were forced to spend the night before the race on the track more than once already.
Gorazd Bedrač, Chief of the Race: ”At first, all the excess snow will be removed mechanically and afterwards about 200 workers are going on track at 3.00 a.m. and will make sure that the Swiss coach Platzer can set the course for the GS race at 7.00 a.m.”
The organizers thus decided not to shorten the track and also not the swamp the programme and first have a slalom race. In tonight’s night action they will also remove a huge amount of snow from above the GS start, because it threatens to slide down the steepest part of the Podkoren slope.
The race will be started by the American Mikaela Schifrin, the Slovenian Tina Maze will start as fourth.
Other Slovenians will start as follows: 28. Drev, 43. Lavtar, 53. T. Robnik, 58. Plut, 59. Brezovnik
