GS World Champion Anna Fenninger continued the way she ended her Colorado mission. The best skier in the world, Tina Maze, who was uproariously cheered by her domestic fans – they were standing all the way up from the finish arena to Trikotna jasa area – didn't make it. When the full Maribor ski stadium amphitheatre opened below her after skiing over the slope fault, she pushed herself even harder, accelerated, but at the same time she started delaying into the gates. She fought the course, however three gates before the finish she couldn't catch the gates anymore and ended up in snow by the course.
''I'm sorry because of that mistake I've made, I wanted too much. Thank you all for supporting me and cheering for all of us. Tomorrow... '' she said with a trembling voice and waved to all the spectators in the finish area.
Anna Fenninger was the fastest, but of the best racers only Viktoria Rebensburg and Mikaela Schiffrin came close. How excellent the course is, the Italian Frederica Brignone announced with her arrival into the finish. Also higher start numbers enabled the racers to place themselves among the first ten, which unfortunately wasn't used by the Slovenian Ana Drev.
This morning all road towards the snow stadium were jammed an hour before the start already. In the standing queue it took the spectators one hour to get to the venue, so the spectators kept coming and coming long after the event was opened. Unfortunately, it will stay unknown, how many more would have arrived for the second run in case... But it was the most unpleasant situation for our racer, Tina Maze. She desired so much to thank her 15.000 spectators, who came to cheer for the best skier in the world, but this time it didn't turn out well. Tomorrow there's another day and a slalom event!
