Markus Mayr: ”In this situation, I cannot confirm the competition in Maribor, 8.-9. January. I am sorry, I am here to help, but I cannot this time due to the entire "package" of snow conditions, temperatures, weather, the forecast …. This is why I need to cancel the competition in Maribor. I inspected the racecourse with the Chief of Race and Chief of Courses, we found out together the situation itself does not allow it. Even though I saw the organizers do their best in given weather circumstances, it did not work out this time. Unfortunately, the third time in a row. But it does not mean we lost trust in Maribor!

Now we need need to check other options, we cannot allow not having the slalom and giant slalom somewhere. One option is that Maribor organizing team organizers the races in Kranjska Gora, like two years ago and last year. I will discuss this with Peter Gerdol, Director for World Cup Women. Most likely the decision will be made tomorrow.

I feel bad about making this decision. I also inspected new, plan B slopes in the upper part and even though the works are not finished yet, it is the right way for the future. It will be an excellent new racecourse, which will add new qualities to recreational and race skiing.”
