He was accompanied by Gorazd Bedrač, Chief of Race and Andrej Rečnik, Chief of Course and immediately after they came skiing down into the finish arena Mr. Mayr made the following statement for the waiting journalists:“ When I was driving into the city of Maribor and then with the gondola to the top of Pohorje, I saw only a green countryside – including the top of the mountain. But as we reached the racing slope, the scene changed completely. There is more snow on the slope than one would expect and in the next days it only has to be properly treated. The standards for the course preparation for the FIS World Cup alpine ski competitions are quite demanding and have to be respected. I do fully trust the capabilities of the team, which is charge of the course preparation. In order to enable a good work on the course I cancelled the free training scheduled for Friday and thus we are gaining another day. As I mentioned, the slope is, considering the weather, in an excellent condition. “Gorazd Bedrač, Chief of Race, was after the inspection very optimistic, as he has been in all past days:“I am telling you again, we have enough snow. In the past 24 hours we lost only 5 – 10 cm, which is very few, considering the conditions. At the inspection today, the drill being 50 cm long, used to measure the thickness of the snow layer, was still to short to punch through the snow on the racing course. The weather forecast for tomorrow is not the best ,but for Friday, Saturday and Sunday it calls for improvement. The course shall be repaired in some sections, but we have still plenty of time.”Down in the finish area Srečko Vilar, Secretary General of the 47th Golden Fox joined Mayr and Bedrač with his comment:” After Filip Gartner, FIS Snow Controller, last week gave the OK for the competition, we already had the forecast for the weather, which is now over us. We prepared a proper scenario and made enough stock of technical snow along the course. The competitions will take place- neither the GS on Saturday, nor the SL on Sunday are in question!”
