The American Mikaela Shiffrin with bib #5 is tomorrow the favourite for the slalom win and her second successive win of Pohorje Cup. She was best two years ago, whereas last year the slalom brooches were not awarded due to the slalom cancellation. The best slalom racer in the World Cup has two reasons for a perfect strike: she did not finish the race in Zagreb and what is more, today she lost the podium placement.
However, Slovak Velez Zuzulova will not go down without fight and her compatriot, young Petra Vlhova, is getting better and better from race to race. Tomorrow's slalom for the 53rd Golden Fox Trophy promises equally tense racing as it could have been seen in today's GS, as the weather forecast is winter-favourable again and the race course is solid.
Among Slovenians there will be Ana Bucik, who will try to improve her success from Zagreb. With bib #23 she is capable to place herself among the top ten racers, which is also Maruša Ferk's goal (bib #26). Ilka Štuhec (bib #33) will again be supported by a full snow stadium, as she managed to place herself on the 8th place in the combined slalom in Val d'Isere, which enabled her also to win that race, and additionally her best career GS placement today.
The organizers were awarded with applause at today's head coaches meeting because the race today was one of the best in the history of Golden Fox, as the Director of the Women's World Cup Atle Skaardal put it. Even more uproarious was the full Leon Štukelj Square, where the crowd greeted Tina Maze among the GS winners.Bibs for tomorrow's slalom for the 53rd Golden Fox Trophy: 1. Hansdotter, 2. Holdener, 3. Strachova, 4. Loeseth, 5. Shiffrin, 6. Vlhova, 7. Velez Zuzulova … 23. Bucik, 26. Ferk, 33. Štuhec, 68. Hrovat, 69. Brezovnik, 74. Livk.
